Daily Itinerary
Day 1 October 13 – Depart the USA
We will depart from the USA on our transatlantic overnight flight(s) to Berlin.
Day 2 October 14 – Arrival in Berlin
Arrive in Berlin and transfer to your hotel. Time permitting, take a panoramic tour of the city. Then, head to your hotel in Wittenberg for dinner and overnight.
Day 3 October 15 – Wittenberg
This morning, enjoy a free morning exploring Wittenberg. After lunch, begin your guided tour of the city. Here, Reformer Martin Luther nailed his 95 Theses to the door of Castle Church in 1517. Make your way to St. Mary’s Church, where Luther’s former home is now a Reformation Museum. Then, visit the home of Philip Melanchthon, a contemporary of Martin Luther. Return to your hotel in Wittenberg for dinner and overnight.
Day 4 October 16 – Erfurt
We’ll drive to Erfurt and have free time for lunch. We’ll visit St. Mary’s Cathedral, St. Severus’ Church, and the famous Merchant’s Bridge, then tour the Augustinian Monastery where Luther became a monk on July 17, 1505. We will be able to see his monastic quarters, including one cell furnished to look as it would have when he lived there. At the end of the tour, we will have a group time in the chapel. Head into Erfurt for dinner and overnight.
Day 5 October 17 – Eisenach
This morning, go to Wartburg Castle, where Luther took refuge after his friend, Fredrick III of Saxony, staged Luther’s kidnapping. We will tour the Wartburg and see where Luther finished translating the New Testament into German. Luther spent time in the nearby town of Eisenach as a schoolboy and sang in the St. George’s Church choir, where the Bach family also worshiped. Enjoy free time this afternoon, with the option to explore Eisenach at your leisure. There is much to see, including the Bach house, the Luther house, and St. George’s church. In the afternoon, you will be free to explore the town of Eisenach, including the Bach House, the Luther House, and St. George’s Church. Regroup and head to Mainz for dinner and overnight.
Day 6 October 18 – Mainz, Strasbourg
Begin your day with a tour of the Gutenberg Museum and the Cathedral in Mainz. Continue through Strasbourg, where Reformer John Calvin pastored French Huguenot refugees, married, and wrote a second edition of his famous book, the Institutes. Take time to explore the city on your own before heading to your hotel for dinner and overnight.
Day 7 October 19 – Constance
Make your way along the border of three different countries: France, Germany, and Switzerland! Take a drive through the Black Forest region to Switzerland’s border. Then, make your way to Constance, where you will have the opportunity to see where the pre-Reformer Jan Hus was martyred. Then, stand in the very Cathedral where some of the trials were held. Check into your hotel in Constance for dinner and overnight.
Day 8 October 20 – Zurich, Geneva
Today, you will cross the border to Switzerland, stopping in Zurich. Make your way to several Reformation sites connected to Zwingli and the Anabaptists. Take a tour of the Grossmünster, where you will see the Helferei (where Zwingli lived) and the Zwingli Statue. Take a stroll through the historic Auld Stadt (old city). Then, make your way on a scenic drive through Switzerland to Geneva. Head to your hotel in Geneva for dinner and overnight.
Day 9 October 21 – Geneva
Begin the morning at the Reformation Monument—statues of the four Reformation leaders. You will see the Auditoire de Calvin, St. Pierre Cathedral, the archaeological site beneath the cathedral, and the Reformation Museum. Enjoy your final dinner at the hotel.
Day 10 October 22 – Return to the USA or Enjoy the Prague Extension

October 22 – Augsburg
Pass through the Bavarian Countryside to Augsburg for dinner and overnight.
October 23 – Augsburg to Prague
In 1518, Luther sought sanctuary in Augsburg’s Carmelite monastery of St. Anne’s Church, which, since the Reformation, has been Protestant. Visit the church there, and then continue to Prague. Enjoy a panoramic tour of the city. Then, check into your hotel for dinner and overnight.
October 24 – Prague
This morning, we’ll have the opportunity to attend an English-language church service or have free time. Head out for a walking tour focused on Jan Hus, a contemporary of John Wycliffe, who is largely considered the father of the Czech Reformation movement. Visit Bethlehem Chapel, where Hus preached regularly, then the Hus monument outside Tyn Church. After lunch, visit Prague Castle, a complex of palaces, courtyards, streets, and churches including St. Vitus Cathedral, which took 600 years to complete. Then, stroll past the famous statues across Charles Bridge to the Old Town Square. End the day by visiting the Hus museum, built to honor his martyrdom. Return to your hotel for dinner (on your own) and overnight.
October 25 – Return to USA
Transfer to the airport for your return flight(s).
